Adhesive is more of a permanent option therefore very difficult to remove once applied. Film adheres to the glass with a pressure sensitive adhesive. This makes adhesive films a bit more difficult to work with.

Static-Cling is caused by a build-up of static electricity once applied to any smooth non-porous surface. Our static cling film (non-adhesive) is therefore easy to apply, easy to clean, removable and reusable! If you would like to remove the film and reuse it at a later stage you can simply to pull it off and place the linear back onto it.

Yes, our product is DIY and in fact we encourage DIY as it is very easy to install. Installation can be broken up into 5 easy steps;

  • Clean the glass surface which you will be applying the film on. A few drops of sunlight liquid in water will be sufficient, it’s important to not use any window cleaners as this could eat at the film once applied.
  • Measure glass to be coated with film and roughly cut to size.
  • Remove the protective liner from the back of the film; this would be the shiny part. If you are struggling to release the linear you can use a piece of scotch tape. Place a piece on each side of one corner and remove the scotch tape simultaneously, the linear will then stick to the tape. Once lifted you can just pull it off.
  • Lay the film down with the adhesive or static side facing you (the side which you have removed the linear from). Make sure the surface used is dust and lint free. Must be very clean. Spray the film with a mixture of a few drops of sunlight liquid add to a 1L spray bottle.
  • Position the film on the glass and squeegee out all the water from under the film. As soon as the water has left the film it will stick to the glass.
  • Trim off the excess pieces of film with a sharp blade to finish it off. (Alternatively you can cut the film to the exact size before you remove the linear)

We do have installation kits available, either a Basic Installation Kit or a Full Installation Kit.

Yes, most of our films can be installed onto Plexiglas or Polycarbonate sheets. Unlike glass or mirror, Plexiglas tends to shrink and expand by temperature, it may cause many small air bubbles between glass surface and film as time goes on.

Yes to some extent. The film is primarily for decoration and privacy purposes. It is important to understand there are multiple causes for fading, UV rays, visible light, infrared rays, heat, and our films do reduce all of them to some extent depending on which film is selected.

Colour fastness tested to light (Fadeometer 200 hours), all films had no fading. Durability heat test (179F, 7days), all films had no change.

This depends on the location you are going to install (bathroom, living room, air conditioned room or not…), and where are you living, but in general 5-9 years is no problem.

No, surface of the windows must be totally flat and smooth glass, otherwise it will come off.

Yes, most of our films can be installed onto Plexiglas or Polycarbonate sheets. Unlike glass or mirror, Plexiglas intends to shrink and expand by temperature, it may cause many small air bubbles between glass surface and film as time goes on.

Yes, the films can be installed in humid and moist conditions. Installation on the outside of the shower door is recommended.

The film is always on the inside. The film will stick to the outside, but it will greatly reduce the life of the film. This is due to the fact that the UV stabilizers are incorporated within the film’s mounting adhesive, so the adhesive side must be facing the sun (installed on the inside, facing out).

SOLYX® Adhesive film cannot be reused after removal however the SOLYX® Static Cling range can be reused after removal- the linear needs to be placed onto it again.

Yes. Unlike other decorative glass processes, SOLYX ® Decorative Films can be removed if desired. This of course is a huge advantage and most landlords do not object to their tenants’ installation of film when they find out the product can be removed.

To remove SOLYX films simply peel away the film from one corner and pull the film from the glass. If any adhesive remains on the glass it can easily be removed with a spray of soapy water and a single edge razorblade. (Blades cannot be used on Plexiglas or Polycarbonate sheets to remove film.)

In addition, the cost of reinstalling SOLYX ® Decorative Films on existing glass is low in comparison to other processes.

Installing SOLYX ® window film is one of the easiest do-it-yourself projects there is. All SOLYX ® Adhesive Films have a pressure sensitive adhesive system protected by a removable release liner which must be removed prior to installation. Films are installed using water and soap based solution. See the Installation Instructions page.

SOLYX ® Decorative Privacy Window Films are self-adhesive / static cling films that come in different patterns and shades and are easily replaced to update the appearance at a later time. Now any flat glass surface can be turned into a work of art, be it an office, restaurant, den, bathroom or child’s room. Frosted films diffuse light without appreciably cutting down the ambient light. As a result, any existing window can be converted to privacy glass in a multitude of attractive patterns.

SOLYX ® Decorative Films are ideally suited for applications that require day or night privacy without sacrificing natural light levels in both commercial and residential applications.

See Applications page.

Commercial applications are found in banks, restaurants, health clubs, hotel foyers, conference rooms and office partitioning. Commercial buildings are dramatically increasing the use of internal glass walls as partitioning. This brings natural light into offices creating greater work productivity, as well as the illusion of more space while offering privacy.

Residential applications include solariums, bathrooms, entry doors and sidelights, mirrors, back splashes or any other flat glass surface.
